Nasarawa set to become Africa’s tourism hub

Nasarawa State is intensifying efforts to develop its abundant tourism potentials, with Commissioner Dogo Shammah affirming its readiness to partner with investors

Nasarawa tourism is poised for significant development, with the state aiming to become a future tourism hub in Africa. This was affirmed by Mr Dogo Shammah, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, on Saturday at the African Culture and Tourism retreat in Lagos.

Commissioner Shammah stated that the Governor Abdullahi Sule-led government is diligently working to showcase the state’s vast tourism potentials globally. The objective is to attract investors for partnerships, thereby facilitating the comprehensive development of the sector.

“The state government is currently intensifying effort to see how best to package the tourism and cultural sites to showcase its values to the outside world through documentation,” Shammah explained. He described Nasarawa as “the future tourism hub in Africa” due to its abundant potential tourist sites.

Nasarawa boasts a variety of captivating attractions, including the majestic Farin Ruwa waterfalls, Doma Dam with its unique island, Fefe Ruwa lake, Keana Salt village, and Maloney Hill.

To accelerate development, Shammah revealed, “That is why the state government has recently released funds to the ministry to go round tourism potential sites for assessment to see how best to develop them.”

The Information Commissioner assured both investors and the organisers of the retreat that Nasarawa State is fully prepared to partner with them to advance the state’s tourism sector.

The African Culture and Tourism Retreat, is crucial for raising awareness about Agenda 2063, stimulating conversation, and evolving practical strategies for the development of tourism and cultural potentials across the continent.

Agenda 2063 itself is a strategic framework designed for the socio-economic transformation of the African Continent over the next 50 years, seeking to accelerate the implementation of past and existing continental initiatives for growth and sustainable development.
