Portable has reacted to Ycee’s comments in the Olodo Uprising debate, defending Peller and dismissing claims about declining cultural values

Nigerian street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has reacted sharply to rapper Ycee amid the ongoing Olodo Uprising debate centred on education, social media influence, and content creation culture in Nigeria.

The controversy began after Ycee criticised what he described as a growing preference for viral online content over academic achievement, a trend he linked to the rise of content creator Peller.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on June 25, Portable dismissed Ycee’s remarks, arguing that the criticism was driven by frustration rather than constructive concern.

“You dey blame Peller because life bitter,” Portable said, insisting that success and failure should not be attributed to others based on personal circumstances.

He suggested that Ycee did not hold similar views during the peak of his music career and questioned the motivation behind his recent comments.

“When life dey sweet, you no blame another man… but now that life dey bitter, you dey blame Peller,” he added.

Portable also defended Peller’s rise in the digital space, arguing that success is not solely determined by formal education but by opportunity, creativity, and audience engagement.

He further challenged Ycee’s criticisms by pointing to material success as a measure of achievement, while maintaining that individuals should focus on personal growth rather than blaming others.
