Olumo Rock free entry initiative ends on 23rd August 2025 due to overcrowding, with normal access resuming to ensure visitor safety

Olumo Rock free entry initiative will conclude on Saturday, 23rd August 2025, as the Ogun State Government moves to restore normal access procedures to the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex in Abeokuta.

The decision, announced by Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, comes after an unprecedented influx of visitors that raised concerns over overcrowding and public safety.

Talabi thanked the public, tourists, and visitors for their overwhelming turnout, noting that the response reflects the vision of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, in repositioning Olumo Rock as a world-class tourist destination.

“The free entry initiative allowed residents and visitors to rediscover and appreciate the cultural and historical significance of Olumo Rock following its renovation. This objective has been fully achieved,” he said.

However, the surge of visitors posed potential risks, with the volume of crowds at certain points threatening public safety. Talabi commended security agencies and on-site personnel for their swift interventions, which prevented potential accidents.

“In line with the government’s priority to safeguard lives, His Excellency has directed that the free entry initiative will end on Saturday, 23rd August 2025. Normal access procedures will then resume,” the statement added.

The Ogun State Government expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the adjustment and reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for all visitors to Olumo Rock.
