A new film titled *Iyeoba* will soon debut in Nigerian cinemas. Directed by Dr. Henry Emeka Obidi, the movie, set in the ancient Benin Kingdom, explores cultural themes, including the preservation of African artifacts, communal conflicts, and the protection of African heritage.

Film lovers across Nigeria will soon enjoy *Iyeoba*, a new movie that explores deep cultural and social issues. Directed by Dr. Henry Emeka Obidi, *Iyeoba*, meaning “the King’s Mother” in the Edo (Bini) language, was announced on September 19, 2024, in Lagos.

The announcement featured Nollywood figures, including Rev. (Mrs.) Joy Osawaru-Akinyemi and Rev. Steve Mario.

The film focuses on the themes of preserving African artifacts, cultural heritage, and fostering dialogue to curb communal clashes.

Dr. Obidi highlighted how *Iyeoba* addresses the loss of over 500,000 African artifacts to Europe and the rising cultural estrangement among African youth.

Additionally, the film tackles critical social issues like child abuse, girl-child protection, and single motherhood.

Set in the ancient Benin Kingdom, *Iyeoba* tells the story of two rival communities, Degbueyi and Ogbehi, who are embroiled in a century-long conflict over the Iyeoba Mask.

The movie’s protagonist, Efosa Omoragbon, played by Nosa Rex, is destined to become the protector of the mask after his father’s death in the conflict. The film intertwines action, martial arts, and cultural pride while reflecting on African heritage.

*Iyeoba* has already garnered international recognition, winning two awards during its screening in Germany. The film features an ensemble cast, including notable actors such as Alex Usifo and Ngozi Ezeonu.

It was shot using advanced technology, ensuring high-quality visuals and sound that will captivate audiences.

Despite challenges with financing and the linguistic complexity of the Edo setting, the filmmakers persevered, with over 400 actors and crew members involved.

The film is expected to attract wide interest due to its rich cultural relevance, exploring the heritage of the Benin Kingdom and beyond.
