Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, and Tourism, Hannatu Musa-Musawa, will launch “Screen Nigeria” at Cannes, showcasing Nollywood’s global impact
Nigeria’s creative industry is set for a major global showcase as the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa-Musawa, prepares to launch *Screen Nigeria* at the Cannes Film Festival.
The initiative, a key part of Nigeria’s cultural and tourism promotion brand *Nigeria Everywhere*, aims to celebrate and promote the country’s thriving film, television, and audiovisual sector on the world stage.
*Screen Nigeria* is designed to elevate Nollywood’s influence by fostering international collaborations, driving innovation, and spotlighting the industry’s remarkable storytelling and cultural richness.
The platform will serve as the official representation of Nigeria’s audiovisual industry at global markets and festivals, using the Nigerian Pavilion as a central hub for engagement.
Highlighting the project’s significance, Minister Musa-Musawa stated, “Cinema holds a special place in any nation’s cultural and artistic landscape.
Its ability to cut across boundaries and connect diverse people while giving them a voice to tell their stories has made it a mainstay of human existence for decades.
With *Screen Nigeria*, we aim to turbocharge our audiovisual sector, making it globally competitive and opening new frontiers, such as animation, for the local market.”
As part of the *Destination 2030* initiative, *Screen Nigeria* will drive job creation and economic growth.
The project targets 2 million new jobs and aims to contribute $100 billion to Nigeria’s GDP by 2030. It will also position Nigeria as a global destination for film production and post-production, attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) through incentives, tax credits, and co-production treaties.
