The event, announced by the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) on Friday, aims to package the country’s vibrant end-of-year festivities, known as Detty December, into a tourism-driven economic platform.

Speaking at a pre-event press conference, NTDA Director General Olayiwola Awakan described the initiative as a “creative tourism expression” that reflects Nigeria’s energy, diversity, and entrepreneurial spirit.

He noted that this year’s edition will be held in Abuja only, while future events will expand to the six geopolitical zones.

Awakan emphasised that the event is not merely entertainment but a vehicle for economic empowerment. “If culture is our asset, then SMEs are the engine that drives tourism revenue.

Through Naija Flavour, we are giving these businesses visibility, access, and platforms to thrive,” he said. The programme will include a marketplace of culture, entrepreneurship, food, fashion, games, musical concerts, and live theatre.

The DG also highlighted theatre as a tool for tourism storytelling and cultural preservation. He commended corporate partners and sponsors, including Monoliza Abuja, NIHOTOUR, the National Troupe of Nigeria, CBAAC, the National Film and Video Censors Board, and GOTHAD for supporting the initiative.

Several dignitaries and industry leaders expressed support for the project. Oba Dokun Thompson, Oloni of Eli Oni, Osun State, described the event as a “dream come true,” stressing that Nigerians are now drivers of their culture.

The Director General of NIHOTOUR, Aare (Dr) Absoye Fagade, praised the leadership in Nigeria’s tourism sector for prioritising culture over oil and gas.

Monoliza Event Centre Managing Director Mohammed Jaama added that the company’s partnership with NTDA demonstrates a shared passion for promoting Nigeria globally.

The National President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), Dr. Badaki Aliyu, assured that its members will be fully engaged in the event.

Awakan concluded that the government, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, is committed to building a tourism industry that generates income, sustains jobs, and promotes national pride.
