Lagos has been named the 6th best city for nightlife in 2024 by Time Out Magazine, surpassing cities like Rotterdam and Manchester. This recognition highlights Lagos’ thriving nightlife, supported by initiatives from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and contributing significantly to the city’s GDP.
Lagos has achieved a notable milestone by being named the 6th best city for nightlife globally in 2024, according to Time Out Magazine.
This ranking places Lagos ahead of cities such as Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Manchester, United Kingdom, and underscores the city’s vibrant and dynamic nightlife scene.
The top five cities ahead of Lagos in the ranking are Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Manila, Philippines; Berlin, Germany; Guadalajara, Mexico; and Austin, Texas, USA.
Time Out Magazine, a global publication known for its extensive coverage of cities worldwide, has recognized Lagos for its exceptional nightlife offerings.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, expressed pride in Lagos’ achievement, attributing it to the efforts of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Omotoso highlighted the governor’s numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing the city’s status as a leading global metropolis.
These initiatives include significant investments in technology, transportation, tourism, entertainment, education, and security, all contributing to a vibrant nightlife environment.
Omotoso remarked on social media: “Lagos is the 6th best city globally in terms of quality nightlife, Time Out Magazine 2024 Outlook has said. Surprised? Not at all. Check out Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s numerous initiatives to ensure that Lagos takes its rightful place among the frontline megacities.
So much investment in technology, transportation, tourism and entertainment, education, security – and more. Indeed, a Greater Lagos is Rising.”
Nightlife plays a crucial role in Lagos’ economy. According to the Statistica Research Department, Lagos is forecasted to contribute approximately 3.4 billion US dollars to Nigeria’s GDP by 2026.
This reflects a substantial growth from 0.8 billion dollars in 2016 to a projected 3.4 billion dollars in 2026.
In addition to its nightlife ranking, Time Out Magazine also named Lagos as the 19th best city to visit in January 2024, surpassing popular destinations such as Dubai and Miami.
The Statistica Research Department, comprising over 200 experts and covering more than 80,000 topics across 160 countries, supports these positive assessments of Lagos’ economic and cultural impact.
