The Director General (DG) of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, NIHOTOUR, Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa, has advocated vocational training and skill acquisition programmes that will empower women particularly the vulnerable in the society to make them independent and self-sustaining.

Kangiwa made the call when officials of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), led by the Chairperson Mrs. Rekia Rachael Adejo-Andrew paid a courtesy visit to him at the headquarters of the Institute in Abuja.

According to a press release by NIHOTOUR’s Director of Media & Public Relations, Mr. Ahmed Sule, the DG said empowering vulnerable women in the society with the requisite skills in vocational training is the only sure way to protect them against all forms of risks and to survive as independent individuals.

He said NIHOTOUR as a training Institute is willing to partner with FIDA to offer the training needs of women under the vision and mission objectives of the Federation in providing hope, succour and healthy living for vulnerable women in the society especially in Travel Tourism and Hospitality trades.

Kangiwa expressed his delight with the visit and the good work the Federation is doing to lift the poor, voiceless and vulnerable segment of women in the country. He noted that Nigeria needs more of such enviable social and Non-Governmental Organizations to augment the government’s efforts at providing better living conditions for the populace.

Earlier in her address, Mrs. Adejo-Andrew said they were at NIHOTOUR to congratulate the DG over his appointment as well as to identify with his visionary leadership and philanthropic qualities that endeared him to many in the country, including FIDA so that the society can be a better place for all, especially the vulnerable and less privileged.

She said the numerous activities of the Federation which include the enhancement, promotion, protection, and preservation of the rights and welfare of women and children in the society through empowerment, require the support and assistance of well-spirited individuals and organizations in the likes of Kangiwa and NIHOTOUR, adding that FIDA was at the Institute’s head office to solicit for that support and collaboration.
