FG urged to harness tourism potential

The Convener of the Destination Awards, Dunsin Oluwasiju, has called on the Federal Government to explore the potential of the country’s tourism industry to boost economic growth.

Oluwasiju said this at the Destination Lagos Award ceremony in Lagos recently.

He mentioned that the tourism industry could be a major foreign earner for the country if properly harnessed.

According to Oluwasiju, the sector would be used to tackle the country’s high unemployment rate and double-digit inflation.

The convener of the Destination Award also unveiled his book- The Best of Lagos, which tells the unsung sights and sounds of Lagos.

He also revealed how blessed Nigeria is naturally, explaining that the tourism destination and experiences cannot be exhausted in Lagos and beyond.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Prof. Abba Tijani, said, “The Federal Government has embarked on collaborative measures with other nations to repatriate stolen artefacts back to the country, while the tourism enthusiast, reeled out the numerous destinations which make Lagos tick.”
