FG and Katsina State sign MoU to establish a global cultural hub to promote heritage, tourism, and economic growth under the Renewed Hope project.
The federal government has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Katsina State to launch the ‘Renewed Hope Cultural Project,’ a major initiative aimed at boosting the state’s cultural and economic development.
The MoU paves the way for the establishment of a global cultural hub in Katsina, which will serve as a centre for preserving the region’s cultural heritage, promoting tourism, and stimulating economic growth. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, on Monday.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Musawa outlined the ambitious vision for the project, stating that the cultural hub would not only preserve Katsina’s rich heritage but also serve as a global centre for innovation, training, and capacity building for young Nigerians.
This initiative aims to empower youth both within the state and beyond by providing them with the tools and opportunities to thrive in the arts, culture, tourism, and creative industries.
“The Renewed Hope Cultural Project will unlock Katsina’s transformative potential, fostering sustainable development and social cohesion through arts and culture,” Musawa said.
She added that the project would also focus on restoring and conserving the state’s historical sites, monuments, palaces, and artifacts, enhancing cultural education, and supporting local craftsmanship.
The cultural hub is part of the broader ‘Renewed Hope Cultural Project,’ a federal government initiative aimed at preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage, promoting domestic tourism, and driving economic expansion.
According to Musawa, the project will change the narrative around Nigeria’s culture and creativity, ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability of the country’s creative industries.
“One of the great benefits of this initiative is how it will promote domestic tourism, creating economic opportunities and adding value to young people, society, and the country,” Musawa explained.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, represented by the Commissioner for Rural and Social Development, Prof. Abdulhamid Ahmed, also expressed his strong support for the project.
He pledged the state government’s commitment to implementing and sustaining the agreements within the MoU, ensuring the preservation and promotion of Katsina’s cultural heritage and contributing to the economic expansion of the region.
The ‘Renewed Hope Cultural Project’ reflects the Nigerian government’s ongoing efforts to harness the power of culture and tourism for economic diversification and youth empowerment, with the Katsina project serving as a key example of this nationwide initiative.
