The Governor of Delta State, Mr Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on tourism investors within and outside Nigeria to take advantage of the state’s investment-friendly environment.

Speaking through his Executive Assistant on Culture and Tourism, Dr Josephine Odunze, the Governor emphasised the economic potential of Delta’s various historic and scenic sites, encouraging collaboration with the private sector to drive growth.

During a media parley in Asaba, Ms Odunze highlighted that the Delta State government, under its MORE Agenda—Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security—aims to diversify the economy through tourism.

She stressed that basic infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and water has been provided to create a conducive environment for investors.

Ms Odunze pointed out the potential of eco-tourism sites like the River Ethiope, which flows through notable locations like McCarthy Beach and Shiloh Beach.

She noted that with proper management, the river could host boat regattas and recreational activities. Additionally, she described McCarthy Beach as a serene destination for tourists seeking relaxation, while Ganagana Island, the first landing site of Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther, offers historic significance and untapped potential for cultural tourism.

The Governor’s aide also discussed the Asaba Film Village and Leisure Park, a hub for the entertainment industry, featuring facilities for film production, music recording, and a zoo.

She praised the private sector’s involvement in managing the park, ensuring professionalism and credibility.

Mrs Josephine Anyameluhor-Ogbolu, General Manager of the Delta State Tourism Board, echoed the call for investment, stating that while the government has laid the groundwork, investor partnerships are crucial to making Delta State a top tourist destination.
