Speaking in an interview with Capital Xtra, the Afrobeats star said a beauty queen was initially selected to play the lead role, but the plan changed after her manager informed the production team that she could not appear due to an existing contract with the pageant organisers.

Davido explained that the team was already on set when the issue emerged, leaving them with the option of either postponing the shoot or finding a quick replacement.

Rather than delay production, the singer said the team decided to use the beauty queen’s makeup artist, who eventually became the face featured in the popular video.

The unexpected opportunity has since sparked reactions online, with many fans describing the moment as an example of how life-changing opportunities can come without warning.

Some social media users joked about the manager’s decision, while others celebrated the makeup artist’s unexpected rise from working behind the scenes to appearing in a major Afrobeats video.

One user wrote, “Opportunity can spring up in the most unexpected ways,” while another joked, “If na me be that girl, I no go forgive that my manager for life.”

Released as one of Davido’s popular songs, Aye became widely recognised for its romantic theme and memorable visuals, contributing to the singer’s continued influence in Nigerian music.

The story adds to Davido’s long list of career moments that have shaped his journey in the entertainment industry, where unexpected opportunities have often played a role in major breakthroughs.
