Veteran entertainer Charly Boy reflects on nearly five decades of marriage, describing long-term relationships as demanding yet routine

Nigerian veteran entertainer and media personality Charly Boy has offered a candid reflection on marriage, revealing that nearly five decades of marital life can feel repetitive and requires continuous effort to sustain.

Speaking during a recent appearance on Yanga 89.9FM, the outspoken entertainer said marriage, regardless of its longevity, demands constant management, compromise and emotional discipline from both partners.

“All marriages are management, including my own,” he said, emphasising that long-term relationships are not immune to challenges.

Charly Boy, who has been married for 48 years, admitted that familiarity over time can reduce the excitement typically associated with early stages of a relationship.

“I have been married to one woman for 48 years, it is very boring. Imagine eating the same Egusi for years, it’s boring now,” he said.

Despite his blunt description, he maintained that stability and familiarity still carry value, suggesting that enduring relationships often survive because of comfort and trust rather than constant excitement.

He referenced a popular saying to underline his point: “The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know.”

The entertainer also stressed the importance of privacy in resolving marital disagreements, warning against involving external parties in personal conflicts.

According to him, outside interference rarely leads to meaningful solutions and can sometimes worsen tensions between couples.

Charly Boy further reflected on the emotional realities of long-term commitment, noting that while marriage may become routine, it still requires intentional effort to maintain balance.
