Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke Guinness World Record

Nigerian artist Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, 15, breaks the Guinness World Record for the largest art canvas, inspiring autistic creatives worldwide

Nigerian teenage artist Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke has made history by breaking the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest art canvas by an individual.

The 15-year-old, who is autistic, unveiled his record-breaking artwork titled *Impossibility is a Myth* in Abuja as part of the 2025 World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) celebrations.

His breathtaking painting, which spans an astonishing 12,303 square metres—over twice the size of a football pitch—surpassed the previous record by nearly 3,000 square metres.

The official unveiling at Eagle Square drew dignitaries, diplomats, and key figures from Nigeria’s art and culture sector, reinforcing the significance of Kanyeyachukwu’s achievement.

Hannatu Musawa, Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, presented the Guinness World Record certificate to Kanyeyachukwu, describing his feat as a “historic and inspiring milestone.” She praised the young artist’s perseverance, emphasising that neither age nor challenges should hinder greatness.

“We are here to honour Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a young Nigerian prodigy who has shown the world what is possible when passion meets hard work,” Musawa declared. “By breaking this world record, he has not only set a new standard but also proven that age is no barrier to greatness.”

The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering the talents of autistic children and ensuring they have access to opportunities within the creative industry.

Kanyeyachukwu’s father, Tagbo Okeke, shared insights into his son’s artistic journey, explaining how his love for colour and a structured creative process helped him focus and develop his talent. The theme of his artwork, *Impossibility is a Myth*, reflects the challenges he overcame to complete such a monumental piece.

Dr Mohamed Fall, the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria—represented at the event by UNICEF’s Cristian Munduate—underscored the importance of inclusivity in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He stressed that recognising and supporting individuals with disabilities is essential to fostering an equitable society.

Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central Senatorial District also hailed Kanyeyachukwu’s achievement, urging the government to invest in specialised education and care for autistic children. Meanwhile, MTN Nigeria’s Head of Retail, Chikaodi Ofoegbu, highlighted the need for an inclusive environment that nurtures creativity.

The event, held in honour of World Autism Awareness Day, drew notable attendees, including Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria H.E.

Pasquale Salvaggio, Director-General of the National Gallery of Art Ahmed Bashir Sodangi, and representatives from the Guinness World Records organisation. Popular Afrobeat singer Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, known as D’banj, also graced the occasion.

Kanyeyachukwu’s Guinness World Record achievement serves as a powerful reminder of the limitless potential of autistic individuals. With continued support from the government and creative industries, his success is set to inspire many others to pursue their artistic dreams.
