    Airtel Nigeria sponsors World Famous Pyramid Game Show as it Debuts in Africa

    Airtel Nigeria announced its sponsorship of the iconic Pyramid Game Show, a franchise of the American Sony Pictures Television Entertainment. The program is set to debut in Nigeria in October.

    At the ceremonial unveiling at Oriental Hotel Victoria Island, Lagos on Friday, Nollywood actor and TV sensation, EnyinnaNwigwe,was introduced as the host of the popular game show, which has captivated international audiences for many years.

    The Pyramid Game Show Nigeria will take the usual global format as a game of communication between two teams of one celebrity and one other contestant. The game requires participants to take turns to define wordsto each other without uttering the word itself. It is a test of wits, quick thinking, and creative communication. The more words a pair guesses correctly, the higher their score. The most successful participants will win the ultimate cash prize of a whopping N10,000,000.

    In his remarks at the launch, Director, Corporate Communications and CSR, Airtel Nigeria, Femi Adeniran, said the Pyramid is in alignment with the brand positioning of Airtel.

    “This program allows people to get rewarded for using their imagination. And as you know, we describe ourselves as giving you a reason to imagine,” he said.

    Also speaking on the partnership, Chief Commercial Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Femi Oshinlaja, revealed that the decision to sponsor the Pyramid Game is an exciting step for Airtel Nigeria and it emphasizes its commitment to connecting families across the nation, not only through internet connection but also premium entertainment content as well.

    “The sponsorship of the maiden edition of Pyramid Game Show in Nigeria marks a significant moment for Airtel Nigeria. It also underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering connectivity among families nationwide, not just through internet connectivity, but also by promoting top-notch entertainment content, further solidifying our position as a leading provider of exceptional experiences. We’re excited to embark on this journey, as we believe in its ability to connect and entertain millions of households across the nation, thereby creating an enriching experience for all,” he said.

    The show will take viewers through three exhilarating preliminary rounds, and the team with the highest score will advance to the nail-biting ‘winner’s circle,’ where they will face the ultimate challenge of describing whole phrases in just 60 seconds without using their hands. Two teams, each consisting of one celebrity and one contestant, will go head-to-head in a race against the clock, competing for the top prize.

    As revealed during the unveiling, the show will air at primetime on more than five television channels nationwide, whileregular updates, including the names of celebrity participants and other contestants selected from Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, will be revealed after the initial auditions.

    The **Chinese community in Nigeria** recently marked the **2025 Lunar New Year**, also known as the **Spring Festival**, with a spectacular celebration in **Abuja**.

    The event, held at the **Chinese Cultural Centre**, featured a fusion of **Chinese and Nigerian cultural performances**, symbolising the strong ties between the two nations.

    Led by **Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai**, the celebration showcased **traditional Chinese performances** alongside captivating displays by **the National Troupe of Nigeria**.

    The event was attended by **top government officials**, including the **Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Oraeluno Obi Raphael**, and **Deputy Director General, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Xu Zhentao**.

    The festival also attracted **members of the diplomatic community and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria**, reinforcing the growing **bilateral relationship** between both countries.

    A highlight of the celebration was the **exquisite display of Chinese cuisine**, allowing guests to indulge in a variety of traditional dishes, showcasing the **rich culinary heritage** of China.

    Ambassador **Yu Dunhai**, who hosted the festival for the first time since assuming office, reflected on the **4,000-year-old history** of the **Spring Festival**, emphasising its deep connection to **family and tradition** in Chinese culture.

    “There is no doubt that the **Spring Festival** is the best window into the **spiritual world and values** of the Chinese people,” he stated.

    He also highlighted the **global significance** of the festival, noting that it was officially recognised as a **United Nations floating holiday in December 2023** and later **inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity**.

    Ambassador **Yu Dunhai** reaffirmed the strong diplomatic and economic ties between **China and Nigeria**, highlighting the implementation of the **FOCAC Beijing Action Plan**.

    He recalled the **successful visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi** to Nigeria earlier in the year, which aimed at enhancing cooperation between both countries.

    “The trade volume between **China and Nigeria** exceeded **$20 billion in 2024**, making Nigeria China’s **largest engineering contract partner**, **second-largest export market**, and **third-largest trade partner in Africa**,” he noted.

    Looking ahead, the **Chinese envoy expressed optimism** about **increasing trade volumes** and expanding economic collaborations, recognising Nigeria’s immense growth potential.

    Speaking at the event, **Permanent Secretary Oraeluno Obi Raphael** commended China’s commitment to **cultural diplomacy** and highlighted the **historical ties and shared values** between both nations.

    “Both Nigeria and China boast **rich and diverse cultures**, with deep historical roots that resonate in contemporary times. From **Nigeria’s vibrant festivals** to **China’s colourful traditions**, we find common ground in our values of **family, community, and respect for elders**.”

    He reaffirmed the **Nigerian government’s commitment** to strengthening **bilateral and cultural ties**, pledging support for policies that **promote cultural exchange, artistic collaborations, and tourism opportunities** between both nations.

    The **2025 Lunar New Year celebration in Nigeria** was not only a festival of **music, dance, and cuisine** but also a testament to the **growing friendship and collaboration** between **Nigeria and China**.

    Ogun State gears up for historic 2024 national sports festival

    Ogun State is set to host the 2024 National Sports Festival, with Premium Trust Bank as lead sponsor, promising a world-class sporting event

     

    The **Federal Government** has commended **Ogun State** for its dedication to hosting a **world-class National Sports Festival (NSF)** as preparations for the **Gateway Games 2024** reach advanced stages.

    On **Wednesday in Abeokuta**, the **Local Organising Committee (LOC)**, backed by the **National Sports Commission (NSC)**, officially unveiled **Premium Trust Bank** as the **lead sponsor** of the event in a **record-breaking sponsorship deal**.

    Chairman of the **NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko**, praised Ogun State’s **exceptional commitment** to organising a **seamless and memorable** festival. He also highlighted the **crucial role of corporate sponsorships** in shaping the future of Nigerian sports.

    “The unveiling of Premium Trust Bank as the lead sponsor for the **2024 National Sports Festival** is a testament to the rising confidence of the **private sector** in Nigerian sports. Ogun State has demonstrated an extraordinary level of commitment, and this partnership is a step toward elevating the festival to **exceptional standards**,” Dikko said.

    Beyond the competition, Dikko emphasised the **festival’s impact** on **tourism, job creation, and economic growth** in Ogun State.

    “The **Gateway Games 2024** will not only showcase **athletic excellence** but will also **boost local businesses**, create **employment opportunities**, and promote Ogun State as a hub for **sports and economic development**,” he added.

    The **National Sports Festival**, often referred to as the **Nigerian Olympics**, is owned by the **NSC** and will feature **over 20,000 participants** from **36 states and the FCT**, with the introduction of **Invited Junior Athletes (IJA)** as the **38th state**.

    Scheduled to run from **16 to 30 May 2025**, the festival is set to be **one of the largest sporting events in Nigeria’s history**.

    “This festival is more than just a sporting event; it is a **celebration of talent, resilience, and the boundless potential of Nigerian sports**. With Ogun State’s level of preparation and the commitment of all stakeholders, I have no doubt that **Gateway Games 2024** will be the most remarkable edition yet,” Dikko stated.

    The **NSC** has reaffirmed its **full support** for Ogun State, ensuring that all **necessary resources and enablers** are in place for a **successful and historic** event.

    The Federal Government is developing Diaspora City to help Nigerians abroad invest and reconnect with their roots, Minister Hannatu Musawa announces.

     

    The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to develop *Diaspora City*, a tourism and investment hub aimed at reconnecting Nigerians abroad with their roots.

    The Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, **Hannatu Musawa**, made the disclosure on Monday in Abuja during the launch of *Motherland 2025*, an initiative celebrating Nigeria’s cultural heritage and economic potential.

    According to Musawa, the project goes beyond tourism—it aims to strengthen economic ties between Nigeria and its diaspora while fostering cultural exchange and national development.

    “Our vision extends beyond attracting global visitors; it is about ensuring that the creative and tourism sectors serve as critical tools to improve the lives of the Nigerian people,” she stated.

    The *Motherland 2025* initiative is designed as a fully immersive cultural experience, featuring **state pavilions, exhibitions, and showcases** that highlight Nigeria’s innovation, business landscape, and cultural heritage.

    A key component of the project is the creation of *Diaspora City*, which will serve as a **thriving tourism and investment hub** where members of the diaspora can seamlessly engage in economic activities, reconnect with their heritage, and settle in Nigeria.

    “This year, we open our doors to the global diaspora, inviting them to immerse themselves in our rich traditions, explore investment opportunities, and witness the remarkable transformation unfolding across our nation,” Musawa added.

    Chidinma Nwakwo, Managing Director of *Discover Motherland Africa*, described the initiative as a **transformative movement** aimed at deepening Nigeria’s connection with its diaspora while unlocking business and tourism opportunities.

    “This is the beginning of a movement that not only reconnects Nigerians abroad with their roots but also fosters investment and cultural pride,” she said.

    With *Motherland 2025* and the planned *Diaspora City*, Nigeria aims to position itself as the epicentre of **global Black and African culture, commerce, and community**.
