AFRIFF 2023 will showcase 150 films and host industry events, celebrating African narratives with a global appeal from Nov. 3-9 in Lagos.
The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) is set to captivate audiences from November 3 to November 9 at the AFRIFF HUB, located at The Palms in Oniru, Lagos.
Founder Chioma Ude, speaking on behalf of the festival organisers, announced that this year’s programme, themed “Indigenous to Global: Cultural Wealth to Global Prosperity,” will highlight African storytelling’s cultural richness and international relevance.
The opening night will feature *Headless*, a crime thriller by Michael Ndiomu that follows the turbulent journey of a Nigerian filmmaker.
“The film aligns with AFRIFF’s vision of blending local narratives with global appeal,” Ude remarked. She noted that African cinema is undergoing rapid evolution, with Nigeria positioned at the heart of this movement.
*Headless* exemplifies AFRIFF’s goal to celebrate African stories that are deeply rooted in culture while resonating on a global stage.
This year, AFRIFF will present a diverse selection of 150 films from Africa and the Diaspora, providing a platform for emerging and established talents to share their work.
Alongside film screenings, the festival will host industry discussions and networking events designed to foster collaboration across the African film industry and beyond.
The festival’s closing night will present *Out of Breath*, directed by Obi Emelonye, which delves into Igbo culture, weaving romance, action, and traditional proverbs into a cinematic experience with broad appeal.
AFRIFF 2023 promises an enriching experience for attendees, bringing together filmmakers, industry experts, and audiences to celebrate the best of African cinema and foster cultural exchange on a global scale.
