Yuletide: Cinemas, parks in Lagos set to thrill indigenes, tourists

Hotels, cinemas, clubs and some other recreational parks within Lagos metropolis are set to thrill and excite revellers during the Yuletide.

Representatives of some of these hospitality outlets on Sunday said that they have designed jaw-dropping and entertaining programmes for the Yuletide.

They shared details of some of their activities for intending tourists and revellers.

Sunday Essien, Manager of the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, said that a whole lot of entertaining activities have been slated to hold at the shrine for the Yuletide.

Essien said that one of such events was the ‘Father and Son Concert’ between Femi Kuti and his son, Made Kuti, which would be a live show.

He said on Dec. 26, Fuji artiste, Remi Aluko, would entertain his fans at the new African Shrine while a couple of Disc Jockeys would also be on ground throughout the Yuletide to entertain revellers.

Also, Mr Olusola Adekoya, Founder, Shodex Gardens, said that the Yuletide promises to be an explosive season for revellers who intend visiting the recreation centre.

Adekoya said that Santa Claus would be available on Christmas Day for children who wish to be thrilled and entertained.

“We will have Santa Claus on ground here on the 25 of December, with lots of entertaining activities for children like bouncy castle, trampoline and more.

“We will also have dancing competitions on Dec. 26 and Jan. 1 as well as horse riding, all forms of adults games and decent swimming activities,” he said.

Similarly, Bluepictures Cinema, via its instagram page, @bluepicturescinema, disclosed that from Dec. 22 to Dec.28, no fewer than seven movies would be on display across its viewing centres in Lagos.

These movies are: Aquaman, Ogeere, Malaika, Ada Omo Daddy, A Tribe Called Judah, Wish, and Migration.

From the information gathered, the line-up of movies promise to enchant and captivate audience of all ages.

Marriot Hotel,Ikeja, also announced its Yuletide package for revellers tagged “Celebratory Buffet Feast”, which would hold from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, 2024.

Similarly, Ibis Hotel Ikeja plans to host families to “Ibis Chistmas Grotto and Brunch” from Dec. 22 to Dec. 25.

Activities such as music, bouncing castle, swimming, games, face painting will be available for revellers as they enjoy tastey buffet, BBQ grills and popcorn and more.

For Eko Hotels and Suites, a programme called “The Bamboo Chronicles” has been designed to ensure revellers enjoy extraordinary adventure from Dec. 22 to Dec. 27.

According to news reports, the 2023 Countdown Greater Lagos Fiesta will also hold from Dec. 29 to Jan. 1, with A list artistes performing to the excitement of revellers at the five divisions of the state ——Epe, Badagry, Lagos Island, Ikorodu and Ikeja.

OLOJO….Ile Ife’s September Gift To Culture

It was a featubal if the people. It was for the anciebt town of Ile Ife, which the Yoruba race refards as the Source.

And ut was a festivsl for the King, Arole Oduduwa, Oonirisa, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

And so between September 24 and 28th 2026, the annual featuval dazzjed in all its white glory.

Tge Monarch paid the traditional ancestral homage and offered propitiation as part of the sacred rites of the Olojo Festival.
It was a powerful expression of Yoruba heritage, spirituality, and enduring tradition.

Call it a collection of beautiful moments, faces, colours and cultural expressions.

Every frame tells a story.

Every face carries the energy.

Every moment keeps the heritage alive.

Undoubtedly one of the most sacred cultural celebrations in Ilé-Ifẹ̀. It marked a day associated with creation, thanksgiving, ancestral heritage, and the sacred appearance of the Ooni of Ife wearing the revered Aàrẹ crown.

There were also the devotees of the famed god of thunder – Sàngó who were hardly conspicuous at the festival.

Many other traditional groups came out with candor, showing a powerful expression of Yoruba cultural identity, spiritual devotion, and respect for the ancient traditions of Ilé-Ifẹ̀.

Devotees of Sàngó bekieved the ‘appearance’ of the god of thunder on Seotember 26th could be understood as a symbolic meeting of ancestral heritage, spiritual devotion, and the celebration of creation.

It was a moment when the sounds of drums, chants, and traditional praise poetry brought the history of the Yoruba people to life.

Although Olojo is closely associated with Ogun, the god of iron, and the sacred traditions of Ile-Ife, the presence of Sàngó devotees reflected the rich diversity of Yoruba spiritual heritage.

As a participant enthused at the festival, “To witness Sàngó Olúkòso emerge on Olojo Festival day is to witness a living expression of history, identity, and ancestral pride.”
