An expert in the tourism sector, Dr. Tobi Bernard Thomas, has given an insight into why the Nigerian government must prioritized the tourism sector for the country’s economic gains.

Thomas in a statement issued at the weekend, said revenue from tourism can be used to expand the economy of the nation, just as he averred that only if infrastructure is put in place.

In the statement titled: ‘Tourism And Its Potential’, the tourism expert also explained that tourism plants a sense of cultural exchange between foreigners and citizens, and this being the reasons why the government must invest heavily in the sector.

According to him, the economic gains of tourism is the influx of tourists that drives local businesses’ demand for services and products.

The expert further explained that tourism compares favorably with other economic activities as a generator of both employment and income, both directly and diffused through the economy.

This is just as he noted that, at the global scale, tourism is seen as one of the world’s largest and fastest growing industries.

While urging the government to have the political will to turn around the sector, Thomas however, said: “if the sector can get the required attention of the government, definitely the money generated from the sector can go into improving local infrastructure, and sustainable management and protection of natural wonders that attract visitors.”
