Simi cyberbullying allegations: singer’s lawyer claims over 5,000 tweets targeted Simi and Adekunle Gold with sustained online harassment

Nigerian entertainment lawyer Oyinkansola Fawehinmi, popularly known as Foza, has alleged that singer Simi and her husband, Adekunle Gold, were subjected to a disturbing campaign of sustained online harassment involving thousands of social media posts.

Foza made the disclosure while appearing on the JayOnairLive show, where she revealed that her legal team reviewed more than 5,000 tweets allegedly targeted at the singer.

According to the lawyer, the attacks appeared coordinated and were intended to emotionally weaken Simi during a vulnerable period of her life.

“We went through over 5,000 tweets of sustained harassment. And the intention was to ensure that Simi becomes a shadow of herself,” Foza said.

The entertainment executive expressed concern that the alleged trolling intensified while Simi was pregnant, describing the situation as deeply troubling.

Foza stated that she could not ignore what she viewed as a dangerous pattern of online abuse against her client and her family.

The lawyer also explained the distinction between defamation and harassment, arguing that repeated online attacks and threats carry serious real-world consequences beyond isolated false statements.

According to Foza, celebrities often face pressure from brands and business partners whenever controversies trend online, forcing them to repeatedly defend their reputation.

She warned that cyberbullying and coordinated harassment on social media platforms, particularly X, have become increasingly alarming within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Foza further noted that anonymity and online monetisation have emboldened trolls, making harmful behaviour more widespread and difficult to control.
