Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu pledges Lagos-Mexico partnership to boost tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between the two regions
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the Mexican government to enhance cultural exchange and unlock tourism opportunities.
The governor made the remarks on Monday during a courtesy visit by Mexican Ambassador to Nigeria, Alfredo Ortiz, who was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Mexico in Lagos, Abiodun Otunola, at Lagos House, Ikeja.
Sanwo-Olu praised the Mexican government for establishing an honorary consulate in Lagos, describing it as a significant step toward expanding bilateral relations and cooperation.
He also noted Mexico’s readiness to collaborate with Nigeria on common challenges, including insecurity, while promoting economic and diplomatic partnerships.
“We appreciate the decision of the Mexican government to open an honorary consulate in Lagos, which will further strengthen our bilateral relationship and deepen cooperation between our two countries. This engagement presents an opportunity for us to share ideas, collaborate, and explore areas that will benefit our people and strengthen our economic and cultural ties,” he said.
The governor highlighted Lagos State’s readiness to support Mexico in promoting business partnerships, sporting collaboration, and tourism development, noting that such initiatives would further enhance Lagos’ attractiveness to investors and tourists and deepen its economic influence across West Africa.
Ambassador Ortiz reaffirmed Mexico’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Lagos and Nigeria, expressing eagerness to work together on trade, tourism, and cultural exchange initiatives that will benefit both countries.
