The reconciliation took place on the sidelines of the 90th birthday celebration of businessman Kensington Adebutu, popularly known as ‘Baba Ijebu,’ in Lagos on Friday. Following the meeting, both monarchs announced the formation of a joint council for Yoruba unity.

According to a joint communiqué signed by the Ooni and Alaafin and witnessed by Adebutu, the council aims to promote peace, cultural preservation, and socioeconomic growth in the Southwest.

The communiqué emphasized mutual respect, harmony, and the continuation of values handed down by Yoruba ancestors.

The rift originated when the Ooni of Ife conferred the title of “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” on businessman Dotun Sanusi, prompting the Alaafin to demand the title’s revocation, citing his exclusive authority over title bestowals in Yorubaland.
