The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the FCT Administration will partner with the Republic of Italy to promote sustainable city development, tourism, and agricultural initiatives.

Wike made this statement during a visit by the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stefano Leo, to his office in Abuja on Friday.

He expressed his intention to personally meet with the ambassador to explore areas of mutual benefit for Nigeria and Italy.

Among the areas of interest identified by the minister were the development of Abuja as a sustainable city, as well as tourism and agriculture.

“Abuja is well-suited for agriculture and tourism development due to its favorable landscape,” said Wike.

The minister clarified that the publication of the names of embassies and commissions that are behind on ground rent payments in the FCT was not intended to target anyone, but to improve the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the region.

He assured the ambassador that the FCT Administration would create a favorable environment for embassies, commissions, and businesses to carry out their activities and thrive.

Leo, in his remarks, commended Wike and expressed his belief that the minister would excel in his current role as he did during his time as governor.

“Your presence in Abuja means we can continue our excellent cooperation. I would be pleased to host you at the Embassy,” Leo said.

The ambassador highlighted Italy’s leadership in the tourism industry and shared that the country has significant plans to support sustainable city development and introduce new ideas for a green city in the FCT.

“It would be a pleasure to support your ideas and strengthen our cooperation with you,” the ambassador added.
