Speaking in a warm video conversation with her pregnant daughter, Temi Otedola, which has since gone viral, Nana addressed the recurring misconception about her background.

She emphasised her deep Nigerian roots while acknowledging how her early life contributed to the confusion.

“To clear the room for everybody, I’m an Egba woman, and that’s the part I’ll gladly claim as a Nigerian. I am not a Ghanaian; my roots are in Abeokuta,” she said.

Nana revealed she was born in Kaduna State in northern Nigeria and lived there for nearly two decades. Despite spending a significant part of her life in different regions of the country, she proudly identifies with her Egba heritage.

She also shared the meaning behind her name, explaining that she is known as Nana Fatima. “I go by the name Nana Fatima, given to me on my sunnah by my grandfather,” she said.

The candid clarification has been warmly received by many Nigerians, who praised her for proudly owning her cultural identity and dispelling long-standing rumours.
