The journalists were part of an official North East Development Commission delegation led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, during the handover of completed projects to the Bauchi State Government.

The accident occurred on February 6, 2026, along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

The crash happened shortly after the delegation commissioned a Government Secondary School project in Yelwan Duguri.

Some of the journalists sustained serious injuries in the incident.

The injured media personnel were initially taken to the Yelwan Duguri General Hospital for emergency medical treatment before arrangements were made to transfer them to the Bauchi General Hospital for further care.

Those affected include journalists from Channels Television, African Independent Television, the Nigerian Television Authority, Arise Television and other members of the Correspondents’ Chapel drawn from various media organisations.

Members of the delegation at the time of the accident included the Minister of State for Regional Development, the Chairman and Managing Director of the North East Development Commission, the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State and other senior government officials.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks journalists face while covering official government activities, particularly during road travels across long distances.
