BFF Festival 2026 brought 9,000 people together in Lagos for conversations on friendship, mental health, community and the launch of Surrounded
Adetoun Jegede’s BFF Festival 2026 brought about 9,000 registered attendees to the Celebr8 Centre on Acme Road, Ogba, Lagos, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as the annual gathering explored friendship, emotional wellbeing and the importance of building meaningful communities.
Held to commemorate the United Nations International Day of Friendship, the festival carried the theme “Surrounded: Together is Better” and continued a journey that began with Jegede’s 2023 book, Building Forever Friendships.
What started as a book about intentional friendship has since developed into a wider community movement, with more than 50,000 members connected to the initiative.
The BFF Conference came before the festival, creating a platform for conversations around healthy relationships, loneliness and the value of genuine human connection.
At this year’s gathering, those themes were expanded through keynote conversations, panel discussions, entertainment, networking and a new book launch.
Delivering the keynote address, Apostle Emmanuel Iren encouraged participants to become more intentional about relationships that support their purpose, faith and personal growth.
Iren emphasised the importance of community, reminding attendees that people are not designed to navigate life entirely on their own.
A major moment came with the launch of Jegede’s latest book, Surrounded, which explores the value of recognising, nurturing and appreciating meaningful relationships.
The book also examines social isolation and loneliness, presenting intentional friendship and authentic community as part of the response to those challenges.
The festival’s discussions extended into some of the more difficult realities surrounding modern friendships.
A men’s panel titled “Strong Men, Strong Bonds: Breaking the Myths Around Men’s Mental Health, Vulnerability, Money and Friendship” featured Emeka Mba and Samuel Jegede, with Michael Awonowo as moderator.
The conversation encouraged men to become more open about vulnerability, pay greater attention to their mental wellbeing and cultivate friendships built on genuine brotherhood.
The women’s panel took a different but equally reflective approach, examining common assumptions about female friendships.
Tosin Ayo-Ishola and Tosin Sanni, friends for more than two decades, joined Coach Sola Adesakin and Omolara Afolabi for the discussion, moderated by Maryam Eje.
Their conversation explored trust, emotional support, collaboration and healthy boundaries while challenging some of the stereotypes that surround relationships between women.
One of the festival’s most moving moments came through a stage production of Surrounded.
Nehita Ofure Irieme played Ayanfe, Ariiyike Dimples Owolagba portrayed Elizabeth, Bayo Bankole played Chris, while Tolulope Abiodun appeared as Shadow.
Written by Shallom Umerie, produced by Onome and Agesse, and directed by Ebenezer Shobowale, with Maurice Edem as assistant director, the play examined betrayal, friendship wounds, forgiveness and healing.
The performance left some members of the audience in tears as the story prompted reflections on personal experiences of hurt and reconciliation.
Pastor Laju Iren subsequently led a prayer session for people dealing with emotional wounds, bringing a deeply personal close to one of the festival’s most powerful segments.
The programme also included performances from Anendlessocean, Saelem and OB Nelson, while DJ Horphuray provided music during the event.
Spoken word, games and networking sessions gave participants opportunities to move beyond the formal discussions and form new connections.
The festival also produced an unexpected reward for two friends, who won a fully funded trip to Qatar courtesy of Lery Hago Travel.

For Jegede, however, the festival’s significance goes beyond attendance figures, entertainment or book sales.
She said the BFF movement was created in response to what she described as a growing epidemic of loneliness, with the aim of helping people experience the strength that comes from authentic community.
The progression from Building Forever Friendships to Surrounded reflects that wider ambition.
What began as a conversation about intentional friendship has developed into a community platform bringing people together around connection, accountability and emotional wellbeing.
With thousands gathering in Lagos for the 2026 edition, the BFF Festival is increasingly positioning friendship not simply as a personal matter, but as an important part of building healthier and more connected communities.
