Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging the abundant tourism potential within the state to generate revenue.

Speaking on Wednesday in Gembu, the administrative headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Council, while commemorating World Tourism Day, the governor stated that this goal would be achieved by utilizing Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and collaborating with development partners to drive the sector.

To accomplish this, the state government, he noted, would go the extra mile and place significant emphasis on tourism development by engaging in extensive tree planting initiatives to preserve the ecosystem.

Acknowledging that tourism in Taraba has not received the attention it deserves, especially in previous administrations, Governor Kefas emphasized that his government would work tirelessly to create employment opportunities and enhance the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The governor said, “To maintain our tourist attractions, I have directed the task force to halt illegal mining and deforestation. We have also initiated an extensive tree planting campaign.”

He added, “The government will actively promote and safeguard the unique cultural heritage passed down to us by our ancestors.”

Supporting the governor’s stance, Joseph Nagombe, the Commissioner for Heritage and Ecotourism, expressed the ministry’s commitment, in collaboration with the state government, to position the state as a focal point of attraction for both local and international tourists.

The commissioner believed that the state government would create a conducive environment for investments to thrive, leveraging the abundant natural resources across the state, which if well harnessed, could significantly contribute to the nation’s economy.
