Nigeria, Bulgaria strengthen bilateral relations in arts and culture

Nigeria and Bulgaria have strengthened cultural ties and are exploring potential areas of partnership between the two countries particularly in the arts and culture sector.

This was made known when the Director-General of the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization, (CBAAC), Aisha Augie met with the Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yanko Yordano, to strengthen cultural ties and explore potential areas of collaboration.

During the meeting, Mrs Augie highlighted the historical connection between Nigeria and Bulgaria, particularly in the context of the National Theatre in Lagos, Nigeria.

It would be recalled that the National Theatre was designed and constructed by a Bulgarian construction company and bears a striking resemblance to the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna, Bulgaria, completed in 1968.

The Director-General noted that the National Theatre in Lagos is larger than its Bulgarian counterpart, showcasing the significant cultural exchange and collaboration between the two nations.
Mrs. Augie emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy in fostering greater understanding and collaboration between nations, and the Bulgarian Ambassador expressed enthusiasm for future partnerships and initiatives.

The meeting marked a significant step towards deepening cultural relations between Nigeria and Bulgaria, with CBAAC playing a pivotal role in promoting African arts and culture globally.
