Olubadan Coronation to feature Tinubu, royals, and global guests as Senator Rashidi Ladoja becomes the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland
Olubadan Coronation preparations are in full swing as Senator Rashidi Ladoja is set to be crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in a ceremony that will draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.
President Bola Tinubu, traditional rulers, captains of industry and Ibadan indigenes worldwide are among the prominent guests expected at the grand event, scheduled for Friday, September 26, at Mapo Hall grounds.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, disclosed on Saturday that the week-long festivities would begin on Monday, September 22, with interfaith prayers, cultural displays and a coronation lecture by renowned historian, Professor Toyin Falola.
Ojo confirmed that more than 2,000 security operatives drawn from the Police, DSS, Amotekun Corps and Civil Defence have been mobilised to ensure order and safety throughout the celebrations.
Chief Bayo Oyero, Chairman of the Coronation Committee, said the event would showcase Ibadan’s democratic chieftaincy succession process, widely admired for preserving peace and stability.
“The Olubadan stool embodies unity, cultural pride and resilience. This coronation will reflect these enduring values,” he said.
The celebration will also include a cultural fiesta, a praise and worship concert marking Oba Ladoja’s 81st birthday, and a thanksgiving service, highlighting the city’s tradition of inclusivity and interfaith unity.
Governor Seyi Makinde has thrown his weight behind the preparations, with live television coverage and global streaming planned to give the coronation worldwide reach.
Ladoja’s path to the throne has been shaped by decades of service as an engineer, businessman, senator and governor, experience many believe will enrich his reign as Ibadan’s paramount ruler.
Organisers have called on Ibadan sons and daughters, Nigerians and international friends to witness what they describe as a historic moment for the city, Yorubaland, and Africa at large.
