Ilaro prepares for the 2025 Oronna Festival, a nine-day celebration of heritage, unity, and culture themed “Festival of Joyful Grace”
The ancient town of Ilaro in Ogun State is set to host one of Southwest Nigeria’s most celebrated cultural events — the 2025 Oronna Ilaro Festival, themed “Festival of Joyful Grace.”
Scheduled to hold from November 7 to 15, 2025, the nine-day celebration will pay tribute to Oronna, the legendary warrior revered for defending Ilaro against invaders and restoring peace to the land.
This year’s theme reflects the community’s gratitude for divine favour and the town’s growing development.
The festival committee, chaired by Pharmacist Lekan Asuni, said the 2025 edition promises an “unforgettable cultural experience that blends heritage, unity, and tourism excellence.”
Among the festival’s many highlights are the conferment of chieftaincy titles, a grand roadshow, and the unveiling of the festival mascot, which will signal the official start of festivities.
The celebration will also feature visits to deities, traditional homage, and cultural parades showcasing Ilaro’s vibrant heritage.
Colourful events such as the Onigbaaje procession carnival and the Sisi Ilaro Beauty Pageant will highlight the elegance, intelligence, and talent of Ilaro’s young women.
Food and music lovers can look forward to Poosu Night, an evening of local cuisine, and Bolojo Night, a showcase of traditional rhythms and dance.
The programme also includes a medical outreach, a 5km race, and a football final, blending culture with community welfare and sportsmanship.
Cultural performances by Egungun, Igunnuko, and Efe/Gelede troupes will bring the town’s rich traditions to life, while artisans and traders will benefit from the economic activities surrounding the festivities.
The grand finale on November 15 at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground will feature Balogun horse processions, cultural displays, music, and dance, with Ogun State Governor, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, expected as the Special Guest of Honour.
Inviting the public to participate, Asuni said:
“Come witness the grace of tradition, the joy of community, and the heartbeat of Yewaland.”
