Kano State Government partners with Guinea-Bissau to boost cooperation in education, agriculture, and youth empowerment across both nations
The Kano State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with the Republic of Guinea-Bissau to deepen cooperation in education, agriculture, culture, tourism, and human capital development.
The agreement followed a high-level meeting in Bissau, where a delegation from Kano, led by Dr Ajuji Ahmed, National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), paid a courtesy visit to President Umaro Sissoco Embaló on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, both parties reaffirmed their readiness to strengthen collaboration in areas that promote job creation, youth empowerment, and skills development.
“The partnership will focus on strategic sectors such as GSM repairs, fish farming, and the cashew and mango value chains to drive economic productivity and employment opportunities,” the statement read.
As part of the pact, the Kano State Government has offered 50 scholarships to citizens of Guinea-Bissau to study English and Hausa languages at one of its tertiary institutions.
The initiative is designed to encourage cultural and linguistic exchange and to reinforce historic West African ties between both nations.
In his remarks, President Embaló commended Governor Yusuf’s “visionary leadership” and announced plans to pay a return visit to Kano.
He also directed his Minister of Defence to lead a government delegation to Nigeria’s northern state to explore further areas of collaboration.
The Kano delegation included the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi; the Special Adviser on Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Hajiya Sadiya Abdu Bichi; Arc. Danjuma Zarewa, former Director-General of Urban Beautification; and Hon. Muhammad Sani Gumel.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building global partnerships that translate into practical benefits for Kano residents, particularly in education, youth empowerment, and economic advancement.
“Our focus is to leverage global partnerships that translate into tangible benefits for our citizens, particularly in education, youth empowerment, and economic advancement,” Yusuf said.
The renewed cooperation signals Kano’s growing interest in international diplomacy and its commitment to positioning the state as a hub for trade, culture, and innovation in West Africa.
