Idoma Area Traditional Council denies nullifying President Tinubu’s chieftaincy title, clarifying no such name was on the affected list amid recent rumours
Idoma Area Traditional Council has firmly denied that President Bola Tinubu’s name was included in any list of individuals whose traditional titles were nullified in Benue State.
The council issued a clear statement on Tuesday, aiming to quash rumours and media speculation surrounding the controversy.
The Secretary to the paramount ruler of the Idoma Traditional Council, Adegbe Uloko, emphasized that President Tinubu’s name never appeared on any list submitted for chieftaincy titles by the Igede Traditional Council.
This comes after the council suspended all title conferments on August 19, a directive reinforced on September 2, as part of a broader effort to ensure thorough vetting and approval processes.
Uloko explained, “At no time did the list submitted to the Idoma Area Traditional Council contain the name of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or that of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”
The suspension was a general measure aimed at safeguarding the cultural dignity and integrity of the Idoma throne, preventing unapproved titles from causing confusion or politicization of traditional honours.
The council reassured the public that the move was not targeted at any individual but intended to protect longstanding customs and promote peace and development within Benue State.
By issuing this firm clarification, the Idoma Area Traditional Council seeks to preserve the sanctity of traditional institutions and protect the image of the presidency amid sensitive political undertones.
