Caleb Mutfwang will deliver a lecture at the 2025 Zuma International Film Festival on Africa’s cinematic influence and film policy in Abuja
Zuma International Film Festival lecture will feature Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, as the keynote speaker at the 2025 edition of the festival scheduled for December 3rd in Abuja.
The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) announced the development in a statement issued on Thursday. Mr. Brian Etuk, NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, highlighted that the annual lecture is a cornerstone event designed to explore the power of film as both a tool of soft diplomacy and an economic driver.
Etuk explained that past lectures have served as critical platforms for addressing industry challenges while uncovering new opportunities within Nigeria’s expanding creative sector.
“Mutfwang, through the topic of the lecture ‘From Policy to Power: The Future of Africa’s Cinematic Influence’, will present a historical perspective on film policy and power, while evaluating the current realities of cinematic influence,” he said.
The lecture will also examine the shift from policy formulation to implementation and underscore the intentional harnessing of the film sector’s opportunities through innovative and impact-driven strategies.
Dr. Ali Nuhu, NFC’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, added that the annual lecture series, first introduced in 2006, was created to propose practical solutions to challenges in the Nigerian film industry.
“These interventions have strengthened practitioner engagement and contributed significantly to the growth of Nigeria’s cinema sector. The lecture series will continue to provide critical opportunities for the NFC and the nation to address creative economy challenges,” he said.
The 2025 Zuma International Film Festival promises to offer insightful discourse on Africa’s cinematic influence and the evolving role of film in shaping national and continental narratives.
